Joe Versus the Volcano – Volcano

This post will analyze the symbolism behind the volcano, Big Woo, in the movie “Joe Versus the Volcano”.

 

The Volcano

A volcano, or any mountain, is a place where the heavens and earth meet. It is a place where the gods live. A man can contact higher powers and experience the presence of the gods at a mountain or a volcano.

Volcano were often used for initiation rituals in various cultures. One can meet and understanding himself truly at a volcano.

Joe has achieved self-awareness at the Big Woo and understood who he really is. He is a hero, both for others and for himself.

By jumping into the volcano he proves this and finally completely conquers his inner fears.
